Our Story: From Struggle to Vision
In 2020, Alwinroy Netto arrived in Canada as an international student at the University of Alberta, excited about the opportunities ahead. But what should have been a time of growth quickly turned into a personal health crisis. Alwinroy began suffering from severe stomach pain, but without a family doctor and limited understanding of the Canadian healthcare system, he found himself lost and overwhelmed.
What followed was a difficult search for care. He faced long wait times, confusing phone calls, and missed classes as he navigated the maze of walk-in clinics. Every attempt to get help felt like an obstacle course. As his condition worsened, Alwinroy’s frustration and fear grew.
The breaking point came when a sudden bleeding episode forced him to the ER. Unable to seek immediate specialist care, Alwinroy sought medical attention in India. After receiving urgent treatment in India, doctors there revealed a terrifying truth: the delays in care could have led to cancer. This was a wake-up call not just for Alwinroy, but for the countless others who face similar struggles.
The reality is stark: over 900,000 international students in Canada are navigating the same barriers to timely care. Long wait times, lack of access to family doctors, and a fragmented system leave many without the care they need when they need it most.
But from this struggle came a vision for change. Alwinroy's personal ordeal inspired the creation of AIDE—an innovative platform designed to empower Canadians and newcomers and break down the barriers that prevent timely access to healthcare. AIDE is more than just a solution; it’s a mission to ensure no one ever has to face the healthcare system alone.
